yeh it is true about the squalls over tha lake and they happen VERY quick however there is alot of cover and bays to get out of it in and just wait it out
as for the fish first i would start if i had a good sounder out near the dam wall and sound around looking for thermoclines, baitfish, and of couse bass and if you can find these drop a lightly weighted plastic down to the depth they are and work the area like that
slow but can be worth it with alot of very nice bass falling that way
other than that i would head into the timber and rock faces and also along the weed beds useing spinnerbaits and that failing i would resort to the worst of the lot and go one the troll with some thing like a mcgraths ultra deep merlin or another lure like that that works down in 20+ feet of water
colours well purple brown and reds work well

the bibless lure you mean??? if so i would like that are talkinf jackles all they are are like the halco tremblers and used alot like a spinner bait

if you not allowed to use plastics then you don't need to worrie about my first sugetion however i only have a cheap lower modle modle sounder myself but it works ok the biggest thing is to know how to use your sounder and how to tell what it is showing you

heard of the comp but don't know much about it
i have only fished a couple of comps before and although i know i would go ok in a comp i just can't be bothered yet as it is most of my fishing is done on a whime when i have a few hours to my self

tip on useing the sounder yeh use it and play with it untill you know it
took awhile for me to get used to my sounder (any sounder really) and trust it in what it was showing me
i have a cheap one that shows bugger all details but i can work it out know if i'm over a snage or over a thermocline and if it is bait down there however as it isn't great detail i can't see indervidual fish
