    Xmas At Monduran

    Hi All,

Due to work schedules I have to take some leave at the busiest time of the year to have a holiday at Xmas, we are looking to go to Monduran or in the area, does anyone know if Monduran gets packed out and full of skiers etc at Xmas and are we able to book a site (powered camping) for Xmas -new year period.

Also I would suspect with the warm weather the fishing should be good but is it, and does the boat traffic affect it much?

    Thanks Glen.
    Cheers Glen,

how are you seq, fishing monduran at chrissy will be busy ,but their is heaps of space to camp ,the owners are very helpfull and the big mommers will be ready for a feed.when you go up hopefully it will be around the full moon as the fish get toey and the barra love moon light for a feed, hence poppers in the timbers.good fun and lots of aggressive strikes, good luck and we might even see you there.

    Hey Glen,
As warrior said Christmas is busy at Monduran like very where else. But as far as skiers go they can only ski in the area around the dam wall so they don't interfear with fisherman at all. As far as traffic on the water and not being able to find a place to fish you will have no problems as there are hundreds of bays to fish in, that produce good barra. If you want a powered site it would be advisable to book asap. Office phone No is 0741573881 Prime time for fishing over that period.

    Thanks Foxie and Warrior,

The missus has got us booked into Elliot Heads as she loved the colour of the water when we were there a couple of years ago , but at least Monduran isnt too far away so will sneak across for a couple of sorties during our stay

What are the best methods for barra that time of year and are there any redclaw about then?

    Thanks Glen.
    Cheers Glen,

    Re: Xmas At Monduran

    Hey Glen,
For Monduran around Christmas your best bet is to get yourself into one of the shallow bays and cast shallow diving lures into the bank and retreive them very slowly with afew twitchs now and then. Lures that catch a lot of barra up here are B52s, bombers, RMG's,Arufurra barra's and Mars. The best colours are gold, silver, bleeding mullet and purple.
Don't let the locals tell you ther is no fish in the Elliot River as I used to fish there all the time and have caught heaps. There are plenry of sands flat sto troll for flathead on the incoming tide. At the mouth of the river just down from the c/van park there is usualy queenies, trevally and tarpon early in the morning especialy if daybreak is about the time as the last of the runnout time and the first of the runnin tide. If you want to chase jack try around Sharks nest and fallons rocks
    Have a Great Christmas
    Cheers Foxie.
