NSW Fisheries are holding a review of Freshwater and Saltwater Fishing Rules. The discussion paper is available on their website - http://www.fisheries.nsw.gov.au.

Comments must be in by 30th of September.

Included are proposals to to ban fishing with "unattended lines" (in other words, setlines), raise the size limit of Murray cod to 60cm, and introduced a maximum size limit of 100 cm.

Typically for NSW Fisheries, it doesn't go far enough. But the proposal to ban setlines is great.

If you are sick of these damn things and the toll they allow certain individuals to take on our vital large breeding Cod, please, put your submission in and support their banning.

Please also the support the proposed changes to the Cod size limits. However, as NSW Fisheries pathetically admits that no impoundment Cod will be protected by even a 60cm size limit (research from Mulwala has shown the smallest breeding fish there are 60cm+), comments calling for a 70cm - 100cm slot limit wouldn't go astray. Despite all the whinging it generate, such a limit would allow all Cod to breed, river and impoundment, and fishing would improve out of sight.

cheers
