    possible fatality

went out to cressbrook dam about 2.30pm today, put in at the normal spot, not many boats, in fact 3 cars and trailers including me made 4.

motored around past the tower no one in sight, as i got down the end of the dam i sighted a tinny. as i got closer i noticed 3 rods in the water a rear anchor rope in the water, but no body in the boat.

this boat was in approx 4 metres of water, as i got 4 even closer i was able to look in the boat, the esky was turn over with the ice over the floor of the boat. What do you do ?

I looked about , yee\lled out dialled 000 to no avail (no service)
Motored up to the ranger, he came and had a look went back called the police, chated with them, and at present they have called in the divers.
By the gear he had in the boat and looking in his car thru the window he appears to be an older chap.

I know it doesn't matter young or old I hope they find him, but this area is not big, I spent another 2 hours there and the chance of him turning up is not good.

I caught 1 bass after all I could be of no other assistance.

Good on you for stopping and doing the right thing SWFisher. I can imagine how you must have felt when you didn't get an answer

It's very sad hearing of anything like this, certainly makes you remember that being out on the water can turn wrong quickly.

My thoughts go to his family who must be going through hell right now
    Cheers,

There is some consolation in the fact he was doing what he loved.

Unfortunately they have recovered the body of a 67 old man. The Australian reports the body being found at 1.50 am. which seems a bit strange to me and even stranger is police found the anchored boat 4pm on the 24th. seems a bit strange when Kevin had already posted on here about it. Either the police or the Australian have stuffed it. Doesn't really matter I spose to the guy and his family. My condolences to all.

yes dasher u are right , they have found a 67 year old gent, the pollice called me yesterday, his name although I do know it is being with held from the media. this guy has had a known heart condition since 1988. A non-proffessional report of the body when found was he was clutching his chest, apparently the water appears to have not contributed to his death.

this is a popular end to the dam shame i or others were not in the vicinity earlier, my condolences to his family.
