    setting up my canoe

I have just recently been given a 1 man canoe. I have done a little bit to it to get it seaworthy and today I took it for a water test to see what else had to be done. I was a little disappointed with how low it sat in the water and it didn't take much for water to come over the back. It is a little open top canoe, with flotation pods at each end. My question is are there ant modifications I can make (appart from losing weight ) to lift the whole canoe out of the water a bit more? Thanks guys, Sean

If the seat located close to one end, I would consider moving the seat further towards the middle of the canoe. That should help it ride more level rather than have the bulk of the weight concentrated towards one end.

I have a 14 footer setup for one person and my seat if 1/3 (at least) from the stern. The seat is also set fairly low to improve stability. I only use it in sheltered creeks and small rivers. I would never consider using it where wind chop could built to 6 inches or more.

Other than moving the seat, I've not done any other modifications. I've kept to the minimalist approach. If I go out for a few hours, my gear consists of 2 rods (one spare just in case), a soft tackle box to hold all the gear, one paddle, water bottle and some nibblies.

Basically, I can walk to the water with canoe in one hand and the rest of the gear in the other.

it is fibreglass, and i haven't yet put the seat in, but yes, when I rode in the centre was slightly better but more uncomfortable due to the flotation pod in the front.

Mate get the photo open it in paint, goto image in the top bar,
    then click strech/skew
    then type 20%
    and 20%

    click ok
    save the file
    then attach it

    that should work
    Cheers,

    Ben
