Sharpy uses a rod called a Live fibre Lightning,,,,we hoped it never lived up to it's name! We had 4 rods on board and all 4 rods buzzed prior to the storm! How much electrical activity is in the air before and during a storm? Is it safe, or is it extremely dangerous! Anyone have any knowledge on this topic??

Late afternoon at lake Awoonga offers fantastic light variations for those who are interested in photography. The scenery was awesome late in the afternoon between stroms, being highlighted by a subtle change in light. The Boyne River arm and adjacent grazing land looked a million dollars. Here's a quick snap of Wayne and Terrin before another heavy shower.

    Yes, Dan,
Nice fish! Great to see you hook good barra during your fishing sessions at Awoonga. 8 landed and 8 lost is about the average barra strike to hook up ratio across the board. Some days are better than others of course, and others can be a bit trying, but at the end of the day it seems 50 % is about the strike to landing ratio. Due to the nature of how barra strike lures, and adding in variables like pulsing and erraticly moving lures, there is little wonder why not all strikes connect! Jumping, and violent head and jaw movements of hooked barra doesn't help the situation either. Anyone who claims a 100% strike and landing rate on barra hasn't caught many barra. I suppose it is part of the reason why we can and do treat fishing as an interesting challenge. It makes us stop and think about our approach and our tactics used , and it certainly helps teach us more about our targeted species. Most fish are different in behavioural patterns, physical make up, and how they hunt! We always learn if we always think!

I'll re-post that pic in a smaller size, sorry!
Some fish run down and grab prey in their teeth. Barra have no teeth, they simply inhale their food with a powerful implosion of water, expelling excess water out through their gills. In other words, they suck their food into their cavernous mouths. If they happen to inhale a baitfish forcefully near the waters surface, the powerful implosion can actually break the surface retention of the water and the barra can rapidly inhale a fairly large amount of air creating a loud popping or cracking sound referred to as 'boofing'! Smaller fish make a smaller sound, large fish can scare the living daylights out of you if it happens close by.
