Cressbrook dam in Kayak 14.10.05
Hi All,
Been a bit quiet lately with the wedding and honeymoon but now back into the fishing. Spent 4 hours out at Cressbrook dam yseterday afternoon after work. First trip there so did some exploring. Managed 11 bass for the session, most falling to a Jackall tn-50 in ayu and a mask 60.
With the overcast conditions thought the fish would be a bit more shallow so fished the edges mostly. Also picked up 3 bass trolling home from the steep banks opposite the tower back to the ramp on a strike zone cicada in about 45ft of water.
Best bass of the session was only about 35cm with the majority small 25-30cm.
Cheers

great catch mate, i see you like the jackals,
have you tried any of the competing lures, ie: shimano, daiwa, berley
just wonder if they are worth the $30 they sell for in comparison for some that are around 10 bucks

Re: Cressbrook dam in Kayak 14.10.05
Hi Herby,
Mate the kayak is great to fish out off, stealthy, stable and safe. I have a Humminbird martix 20 sounder and GPS fitted to it which helps locateschools and structure.
My setup brand new not including sounder is about $1600 with rod holders etc.
Yellahunter, regarding the jackalls I have used the other you mention and yes they catch fish but they are not as good as the jackall for the following reasons, they require less speed to get them to swim(very effective to slow roll your lure), they actually have a action while on the drop and throught experience do out fish the other lureswhen i was like yourself and not a beleiver and using the lures you mentioned and being outfished by my fishing partner using a jackall.
As Elysium said, the price has dropped and if you shop around,eg on the net you can pick them up even cheaper. But the jackall is invincable and I have had days where the bass dont want jackalls and have benn outfished by straight platics, spinnerbaits etc. You just have choose a lure that works on the day, thats half the battle
Cheers

Yellahunter,
was my first time at the dam so bass only. There is yella there, some good steep banks to try for those. There was a few bait drowners there but they had only caught undersize bass.
Hopefully with the rain we have had the dam might rise slightly. Fingers crossed for a few more solid days of rain
Regarding your Q in the tackle forum, I would buy a Mask first, they fish better in my opinion as sometime the noise attracts the smaller fish/rubbish fish(catties) were the mask is a more natural presentation and does work whenthe fish shutdown.Any natural colour would be the best, mask 60 in Ayu.
Cheers
