Off next Thursday for 1 week at Glenlyon dam. This trip has been 2 years in the planning (begging wife for permission) Any tips on tactics would be great. We are not so keen on live bait and wondered if soft plastics would work.
Cheers

i was at Glenlyon Dam few weeks ago. Caught a few small cod. fish close along the weed beds. small purlple lures and did well with soft plastics in the large sizes. natural colours. also fish the structure and trees. takes a lot of casts in the one spot to catch a fish at times.
good luck let us know how you get on.
cheers

try different coloured spiinerbaits and plastic jigs but when you are casting dont leave that spot where you are for a while because last school holidays I went down to glenlyon dam and I caught a 8 and a half pounder of a nice big rocky wall up near the caves so keep on casting in the same spot its persistance! and dont beafraid to ask bryan at the kiosk he is very helpful.
and remember dont take four casts and leave sit and cast for a while.
i fish this dam often and lately i caught a nice 21lb cod and last trip saw at least a dozen cod from 5lb to 60lb or more ,some over the 1 metre mark . these fish were not interested in any offering ,from plastics to spinnerbaits they were all interested in spawning only. but i have found casting to structure and the weed beds to work better for myself, and purple and black a great colour , also dont be scared to fish around the midday say 12 to 2 pm. hope this helps get you a nice cod. b dowdy...
Have just got back from Glenn Lyon this afternoon ( Mon.) the cod are really firing, one bloke caught ten cod on the weekend ,biggest was 40lb and most were around 30lb. The no. 1 lure is a spinner bait in purple. Fish around the caves and you should go o.k. I think it would be a bit risky to paddle up to the caves in a canoe.
Well if no one has Ill take some next week and post them. Thanks heaps for all the reports especially the last one Beatle. That has got me really excited.

hi guys ,i have afriend that has some great photo,s of the caves when its abit lower than it is now but nothing digital to put onto tis site , let me just say this place has massive cod and as i wrote the other day some fish are over a metre long that ive seen . if your heading down that way ask brian at the kiosk to show you the photos of the big cod cruising the dam wall (massive). and yes (purple is my fav colour) it works a treat. i only live 45 mins away and dont fish this place enough but when i do i usually come up trumps. bdowdy....
the canoe would be alright but it does come up very choppy quick and i would hate to be stuck in a canoe up the back and be stuck in bad weather. aslo its abit of a, paddle if you havent got a electric and i wouldnt want to be fighting abig cod in the canoe in the dam the thing could be half the size of your canoe... bdowdy
