Re: Monduran (Shrimp)
Whitto , there are plenty of shrimp around the place but not of any great size, you may even pick up the odd blueclaw if you are lucky, If you are interested in bait fishing set up a couple of gar outfits and target them for bait.

No Matt, I only use lures and I don't know anyone personally who has, but I have heard of blokes doing it after dark.

Re: Monduran (Shrimp)
How do you catch redclaw? Do you buy traps, bait them and leave them out for the day? overnight? Where do you get the traps from and do you require a license?

Re: Monduran (Shrimp)
Pointy,
Redclaw traps are available at most tackle outlets and differ from shrimp traps. No permit is required for them , but you are only allowed 4 per person in the boat and must have the owners name on the float and trap the same as a crabpot. Due to the laws changing every day it is a good Idea to check with the DPI for any new updates on this.
If you are asking how to catch them in monduran , the best thing to do is go to another dam like awoonga that is stocked with them.
I have only heard of Blueclaw in monduran and only in small numbers.
Redclaw are not stocked here as it is not their natural range.

Re: Monduran (Shrimp)
I was at Monduran last week and I had heard (obviously incorrectly) that there were redclaws there, so I took 4 traps and put them in the first day I went out. I tried several locations and all I got in them was catfish so I didn't bother trying any more. As I travelled around the dam I did not see any trap floats for the whole week, so everyone else must have known it was a waste of time.

Re: Monduran (Shrimp)
Freeeeedom,
It is always worth a go but as far as I know on the stocking side there is no Natural or Stocked Redclaw in Monduran, and I am sure that Awoonga may be your first stop for them , unless someone may know of another area closer that may have some.
During peak Holidays you will see hundreds of traps around the Dam , but all I have heard of being caught are Blueclaw and Shrimp. I am not sure what bait they are using but if you are using some type of meat all you will get are , Turtles , Catties and Eels with the ocassional small fish.
