Yeah mate... ya can't beat an outing with the family.
Shame to year about the unruly behavour of some fishos
Certainly makes the blood boil > Could do with a few more Fisheries officers.... as we don't see enough of them.
Another early start today with my 2 daughters saw my youngest cast and retrieve her first Barra, she has been trying her hardest this season and has now drawn the ACE. Cast, Landed and Released all by herself #[smiley=2vrolijk_08.gif]. The little smiley is only half of the excitement she had shown with her first ever Barra shakes .
My youngest has always been the champion of the 2 on Bass and Yella's, now my eldest is worried and I say it is going to be one big competition over the holidays on the day's I haven't got clients.
We started the morning by trolling just on daylight and had one solid hit in the main Basin, but the Girls {and Myself} were bored within 20 minutes and wanted to go casting.
We only put 1 in the boat and lost another 2 . The morning was heavy Fog then overcast , as we decided to head home around 10.30am the sun was just breaking through, where if I didn't dig them out of bed so early we may of done a bit better as the Temps rose above 30 deg.
A gentleman had mentioned to us on leaving the Dam that another guy last Thursday night weighed in 12 Barra over the metre mark, and from what I could make of the conversation as I was half asleep , they were weighed in at Camp. {1 person 12 Barra , Closed Season, Hmmmmm},
I will be asking a few more questions about this next time I go up.
2 blokes have already been done a few weeks ago with 2 undersized and 1 over the limit by the DPI waiting at the turn off checking boats.
If anyone witnesses this sort of Pilaging it is in the best interest for eveyone to ring the DPI with rego numbers of the vessel involved. These stocks in the Dams are our Future and the way Green Zoning is going , it could be our only Fishery available to some. Same goes for Dangerous Boating, all you need are Rego numbers and a Marine Incident Report filled out from the Marine Transport and you will be amazed how far it will go.
Sorry to mention this but it did bring the Edge off from what our Family classed as a brilliant day.
All that said and done I think I will have an almost permanent Little Blonde Figurehead casting her arms off on the front deck untill she can beat big sisters record.
Barbie Dolls only lasted as long as it took for the girls to stand up and hold a rod.
One thing I will give them , on nearly every trip they will spot at least 2 lures on the edges, at least it is a little bit cheaper on stocking their Tackle Boxes.

It's great taking the kids out. I think I get more excited than them.

Yay for the li'l ones!
I do not have children,,,,, and , but atleast I get the satisfaction of hearing and seeing the results and achievements of other people's prides and joys! Kids are great! So willing to learn and strive! Teaching is our power, we have so much to offer, and as absorbent as they are it is little wonder how they come out with the phrases and words that we often wonder,,,,,,,,"what the?"
I take my hat off to those who are parenting, and the effort that most put in! They are our future!
Kind Regards,
Johnny Mitchell

The only thing that scared me was when the eldest hooked her first 85cm Barra , there were a few words that slipped out [smiley=sneaky.gif]{that she must of picked from other fishing adventures seen elsewhere}{not with me} #[smiley=angel.gif], during the hook up and fight and the worse part was Mum was on Board, #[smiley=behead.gif].
My little angel almost had me knackered that day. Hopefully when my youngest next tangels with a decent one that she can keep it a bit more under control if Mums on board , otherwise my Parole will be suspended and I won't be able to take the kids fishin again. Or go by myself without Adult supervision. The Mother-In-Law for sure. [smiley=devil.gif]
But Geez it was funny. [smiley=grin.gif]
Brett .... yeah mate the little #[smiley=angel.gif] probably picked the adjectives up off one of those MA rated TV fishing shows # [smiley=lolk.gif] ... As we all know it would never come from daddy

Yeh that's right MATE those Fishing Videos and the like on Afternoon TV Fishin are mind washing for Little ones.
Harry Potter and Play School Les you really have to watch your back there. I watch them quite frequently{with the kids [smiley=wink.gif]of course} and was shocked what Jermimah and Big Ted get up to. .
Brett,
Tell me mate, you recall emailing me last week with some stats from Monduran over the last few seasons and mentioned some huge fish that you've caught. I have been lucky enought to get a few metre plus fish but I still have plenty of trouble with little fellas over 70cms.
What I want to know is how do you stop the Barra from pulling your little girls overboard without sacrificing a heap of drag. On our last trip I got hit unexpectedly (as is most of the time when it's a bit slow) and nearly lost my rod as well as myself overboard.
You have a great thing going Brett with the family so involved in fishing. I have a mate who introduced his son to fishing at a young age and always tagged along on our trips. When he finished school, he was so engrossed in his fishing that he never went through the night clubbing and getting pissed every weekend phase and spent his money and time on fishing. He now has a boat plus a nice car to tow it with and a heap of quality fishing gear to show for his dedication not to mention is a great fishermen. His mates are still getting maggot every weekend and are still riding their pushy's and skateboards around. Fishing (especially sportfishing) is a great platform for our youth mate - especially the girls. If more of them were introduced to fishing years ago, I may not be single
Navi,
# # # #It's all in the phrases they use when hooked up. #[smiley=evil.gif]
Unlike my drag that is tightened with a hammer, I do back there's off slightly so the initial shock is taken out, and then tighten up really smartly before they both know whats going on.
Neither of them has tangled with one over 90cm yet, but I really can't wait for the day.
My eldest is lucky , she takes after Daddy with her good looks and Frame.
Where my youngest takes after Mother , 3ft and 30Kg wringing wet and even Mum is a sight with a 20Kg plus job hooked up.Brings tears to your eyes when their little legs are folding. [smiley=grin.gif]
I may be down a rod when the youngest snares a big one for the first time, but we'll see, she can fish quite well , I have seen her hold some awsome Mackerel and River species.
My beliefs are the only limits one has is what you put on yourself , Male or Female.
We are quite good friends with one of Aussies best Female {Exported} Anglers and my Girls look up to her as a God.
I just hope they choose the right paths in life {and keep fishing as a sport} and be held back by no-one.
A child is only as good as their parents allow them to be. #
Well said mate. If only some of these kids in Cronulla could have taken up fishing instead of drinking - not that I don't mind a few coldies myself. I guess the difference is that when I've had too many I pass out not punch out.
At this stage we'll head back up the dam between xmas and new year and again for the full moon in Jan. I will definately shoot you an email prior to heading up as I would still love to catch up personally for a coldie and a chat.
Tight lines mate.
Yeh Navi that sort of rubbish will never stop , I don't know, a big bottle of Bundy and I am like the Bear in Hibernation with a big grin.Give us a yell I'll bring the kids they can drive the boat and we might learn a thing or three.
Have a Good one
Brett
What's your set up like Brett.
Boat/motor/electric/sounder/gps??? if you don't mind. Just interested.
Also, what sort of combos do you use.
Nav,
Anything from a Loomis 14 to 25lb with a 100 series Shimano Curado to Live Fibres for Personal Use. 20lb Fireline and just about to give 30lb FIN S a go.
Single 30lb to 80lb Leaders to Double Leaders depending on where I am Stalking.
Boat is a 5.2m Sea Jay Custom Nomad V-Nosed type punt , 2.4m wide , 2 live wells at 80 L by 50W by 40 H. Other well is 1.85m L ,30W and 25 H. Front Casting Platform has both wells and 2 Battery Storages with room for other junk in each if needed plus Anchor well.
Rear Lounge and 3 Swivel Chairs which can be moved all around the boat to suit. 60Hp Four Stroke Johno , will travel at 29.5 knots. Cruises at 25 kts.
Side Console to maximise room and a very good lookin Skipper. [smiley=grin.gif]
Bow Mount is a bit under powered with a Rip Tide 55lb. In all boat just comes in under 2.3 Tonne. GPS is a Garmin Dash mount just a cheapie but does the job.
Sounder is the 520C Colour Lowrance not bad when you work out how to drive it. You can really pick the fish from weed, timber and bait schools.
Hope this helps.
Brett
