Poor old Cod did well to escape slaughter for as long as he or she did .... given the water levels & angler pressure that place gets.... big shame indeed

Yeah, If it was near the metre would have most likely been a spawning female, shame to take her out of the water.
Is Leslie Dam the one near Warwick?

McCod See your Ausfish picture with a nice Barra ,but you seem to have a healthy respect for the big green speckly fellas, do I detect a soft spot for em ?
    Cheers Pete.

mate most of us have a soft spot for these beatiful fish, its very rare that i will take one to eat unless i've taken someone on their first fish for one and they want to eat it

Yep... Love Murray Cod... used to spend hundreds of hrs per year fishing for em in Glenlyon Dam and the border rivers... love poking along the rivers fliking lures for em... just been a bit hooked up with Impoundment Barra fishing the last few years... and don't get down that way much anymore.... gunna get back down and into them real soon.

    Guys

I want to hear your thoughts on cod. I was of the opinion that all big fish are breeders but recently I was corrected.

I was told fish up to 5Kg are the breeding stock fish over that weight become marauders and attack their smaller cousins.

    Thoughts please.

LOUIE.... I'm no expert on Cod breeding but i Have seen a lot of breeding pairs over the years... and its not uncommon to see big females like around 60 lb and more pairing off with smaller males @ around 20 lbs or smaller. I have never seen fish of the same size pair off... But i spose they do ? Have seen a lot of fish that have been in some big blues with some Big Cod. Some of the pairs may have been the other way around... The big ones may have been male fish with smaller females... Its just we allways think of the big one as females.... But its not all true as a lot of the big cod are males. As a rule most cod can not breed untill there aprox 60 cm and or around 4 to 5 KGs ... But this is a variable.

    Cheers Les
