    Burdekin Dam Fishery

    http://www.sunwater.com.au/current_p...s_Moranbah.htm
    http://www.connectqld.org/asp/index.asp?pgid=7241

    Several questions and concerns.

Has the Burdekin Assoc been informed/consulted with regard to the impact this will have on the Fishery?

Will the pipeline severly affect the levels of the dam or will the water be pumped into Kinchant Dam?...How will this affect Kinchant?

Has Sunfish or any other Group been consulted as to the impact on the Fishery?

I notice that at present, Burdekin is at 58% and Kinchant is at 39%
Will this just continue to drain both Dams IF we have another failed wet or two, and destroy the fisheries we already have?

Was the stocking of Burdekin last october a waste of money and resources considering this pipeline was probably already given the go ahead?

    Hi Juicy,

I dont think it will do much to effect Burdekin. If you take a look at the costs involved it will only be a last course of action type thing. The sizes & capacities if Burdekin to Kinchant is chalk & cheese. I cant see moving enough water to fill Kinchant as having much effect on Burdekin.

    Kinchant Capacity: 62 800ML
    Burdekin Capacity: 1 860 000ML

    Cheers,

    Cheers Fitz,

Had to ask these questions in Ausfish as there was no mention (from expert or otherwise.....in any of the sites or our local papers write up) of the impact (if any) it would have.

Excuse my blondeness but what do you mean by this

Are you referring that the pipeline isn't going ahead due to cost, or the cost to fill Kinchant

Would you or anyone else know how the October released barra are doing thus far?

    G'Day Juicy,

I recon the cost of pumping water from one lake to the other. Why do it when its normally free (if it rains).

Would you or anyone else know how the October released barra are doing thus far?
I dont think anyone can tell for certain how any fish are doing just a couple of months into freedom, however I'm guessing those that have live thus far are eating & growing fast.

Exactly! They aint going to do that unless its absolutely necessary & as a last resort.

If push comes to shove, fish are the last priority (& rightly so) if it comes to people having water for drinking, sanitation etc.
