    Re: cooby dam

Scotty, I believe there are cod in Cooby Dam, though don't know about catches. It is an electric only dam. Stocked with bass and yellowbelly. Had a look last Sunday, it is very low and the only way you can get a boat in is to lift it in, by the look of it you might have to drag it through a bit of mud also... peterr... Cooby is situated about 25k north of Toowoomba, through Highfields, and off Meringdan Road. Local reports say that bass and yellowbelly are caught from rocky banks up the dirt road to the left of the entrance on spinner baits and live shrimp. Cheers, Mike.

    Re: cooby dam

they have stocking records at the dam and no bass have ever been stocked only silvers, yellows n cod. we've only been there once and we hooked one decent fish but didnt even get 2 see it b4 it got off, havent been back yet. we had one old guy telling us he does out there every weekend with 20 yabbies and comes back with 20 cod, but we found this a little hard 2 believe.

    Re: cooby dam

Cooby Dam has been well stocked with cod, yellowbelly and silvers. There are NO bass there. Good sized cod are caught regularly. Due to the drought the dam level is very low and it is really difficult to launch a boat . There are extensive weed beds throught the dam which are alive with tiny shrimp ensuring the yellowbelly and silvers do very well. It is an electric only dam but for bank fishermen the steep rock walls provide excellent fishing opportunities.

    Re: cooby dam

About five or six or seven years ago while fishing for Yellowbelly I caught a big bass. It was on the far side of the dam on a Downunder lure.

The guy in the next boat said there was no bass in there too as he watched me land it. Must have been in disguise...

    Re: cooby dam

Cooby is in the Murray/Darling catchment. As such it cannot(legally) have bass stocked.
If a bass found its way in it could only be by accident at the hatchery or some individual translocated it from a dam in the eastern catchment.
