Callide - Is it worth the Drive?

Hi - I am planning a Barra trip (yabba dabba doooooo) and was wondering what Callide dam is like? I have never been their. I have seen on the net that water levels are quite low (sunwater.com.au). Has anyone been their recently and were the Barra playing the game :question
    Cheers,

yes easy dam to fish for beginners as there is very little timber & only a small dam. have a look at my sons (cod_buster) report in freshwater photos.

    cheers

Hey, I fished callide last weekend. It would have 2 be the easiest place to catch a barra ive been 2. Like rossco said its just a open dam. You troll out in the middle of no where and not a snag to be seen. We just trolled 2 morning and 1 evening session and ended up with 4 barra, biggest goin a metre and the smallest 92cm with a few others lost. A couple other blokes there got a 115cm and a 110. It was a bad weekend though with wet weather and a falling water temp. My mate said it was the worst trip he had there for fishin but i enjoyed it. Good luck any way

hi, might be a little late for you now but i took my old man upto callide on the 18 thru to the 22 of last month. yes the dam is low (about 9%) but still worth the trip. we only landed the 2 but had quite a few snap offs and a few spits. we used a mixed bag of lures ranging from barra classic to smiling jacks deep 15 and had luck with all. the best colour seemed to be red head white body, although, we visitted creek 2 coast in Billoela and they told us some colours i would never have used but they also seemed to work. Most of our success seemed to come only 50 to 100m from the boat ramp heading north east from the ramp in 12 to 20ft of water. It is fun but the only problem is that you are not actually permitted to camp at the dam, although they say a bush camp is on the way.
