    Bass feeding habits

I have been bass fishing for quite a while now and I always here people say bass are best caught early morning and late afternoon. I have only ever had success in the morning, and in every afternoon trip I have ever taken the bass seem to be switched off. I know early morning and late afternoon are the best time to catch them but early morning in my experience has been much more productive. Is there any technique/lure that has produced fish for you in the afternoon? Do bass hold in different areas of the lake in the afternoon then they would in the morning?

Not right now, because the water levels are so low, but Moogara was always good from 2.00 pm onwards. And really good if a storm was on the way.

On more than one occasion I have pulled out > 20 bass all over 40 cms in one afternoon session by trolling DownUnder Boomarang lures along the old river bed at < 2knots.

I have tried the same lure in Somerset at the same time of day but think I am lucky if I catch two decent size fish(However my record is 55 cms which isn't bad). The boomarangs still work but only the bronze colour (against the green in Moogara).

A guy in a blue boat(I have seen him post to this site) showed me how to use soft plastics in Bay thirteen and I cleaned up! Right in the heat of the day I caught bass after bass until my arms nearly fell off.

Couldn't wait to have another go at them, and I have been back to Bay 13 many times, but it no longer seems to work as well because the bass are not schooling.

    Strange creatures fish!

berkely surface poppers have worked several times for myself, flicking them close to the edge of the bank near rocky edgers and timber and weed sections. In rivers under trees is the place for them.

timber custom lures also work trolled or casted.

jackalls aswell on edge of weed beds or in schools of fish.
