brisbane river

i am new here and i can only rely on public tranportation. no boats, but i really wanna try brisbane river. wonder where i can cast a line in brisbane river, what kind of fish i can get and what skills i should use.
by the way, a silly question, is brisbane river salt water or fresh? i intended to have a tast, but, you know...

Above the Mount Crosby Weir it is all fresh water.

The fish that you are likely to catch are Bass and Catfish predominately.

Below the weir is brackish water (ie. partly saltwater) and the further downstream you go the more saline it becomes.

The fish in these areas are the same you will catch in any esturine system.

Perhaps troll through the Reports section and this will give you some better ideas.
