    BEST BARRA LAKES S/E QLD

Hi guys ...Just back from fishing n.t ..daly river , shady camp, now have barra withdrawal symptoms and am seeking some advice on the barra fishing close to home at noosa..around 4 hour drive 0K
Thought Monduran in two weeks time.....is winter ok ?
Any other lakes close by worth trying like to plan a trip every month?
Is it best to fish the middle of the day this time of year ?
Are the plastics the go in the winter ?

Love to see a BARRA swim away to fight another day !!!!

    Cheers DECKA

Best southern lakes are Monduran and Awoonga.
Have to find the warmer water and work the fish.
Find it a bit harder this time of year.
First secret is find the fish. No matter what at least at Monduran if the Barra aren't on the chew there is the bass to keep you amused.

    DECKA,
Monduran is as good a place to start as any. At the moment we have been getting a couple of Barra a day with the odd bycatch of Bass up to 50cm. It is tough fishing as it cools down but not totally hopeless.
Monduran's average size of Barra is 80 cm to 115 cm where Awoonga is well known for big numbers of meter plus Barra with the odd Rat being thrown in.
Soft Plastics have been working well for us this winter so far.
In the peak times you can get up to 20 plus Barra a day down to {ahhh well the scenery was nice }. Quite a few do suffer the latter , not just because of poor fishing techniques but more of it just wasn't the day for the fish to move , which can happen a bit in Impoundments. Some just have all the luck.
There is some great reading on this site on both dams where a lot of people put in great info to help others out especially for those who are travelling long distances to hopefully land a Fish. Just flick through some of the other pages.
    Good Luck.
    Brett.

The caravan park at Monduran is best by far. Awoonga is in the alright but Monduran is top rate park for camping. Facilities are A1.

    Thanks Guys
Will head up to MONDURAN for a look and familarise with the lake, have been reading all the past reports and seems anything goes you just have to be there ,the right time, right day, plentyof patience, thats fishing

Never fished the qld lakes before , the challenge and anticipation of fishing is what makes it a great sport my best mate and i have been escaping to go fishing for the last 45 years and as they say you are never to old to learn
N.T.fishing for barra is something every fisher should expierience, flicking lures or plastics into the colour changes on the outgoing tide with barra 'BOOFING' all around the boat is magic ,double hook ups, giant crocs sitting on the bank with their mouth open watching the action..great eh..shut up DECKA,getting excited....unfortunately is only a once a year trip...have got a few clues for anyone planning a trip to NT

MONDURAN and AWOONGA sound great for bigger fish very few NT fishers have joined the METRE CLUB

My advice regarding the onsite facilities at Monduran is to check the fine print regarding cancellations etc. I had to rebook my trip (in advance) to a unforseen circumstances and the booking office were rude and not very understanding. I realise that everyone needs to make a buck but most other motels etc operate on a flexable basis except this place.

I ended up staying at Gin Gin motel which was fairly close.
