Depending on water temps from year to year, I find late Sept - Nov very good months in central Queensland.

Yeah mate, im not at all in favour of the way they hang the big buggers up either. If I could do something about it I could mate. But I don't think I can. You got any idea's on how we could get around a fair comp without hanging monster fish on a rack to be eaten?. I don't. As I said, I don't like the way it's done.

there are that many catch and release barra comps around that surely the organisers could take some directions off these guys or are they the ones that know everything and dont listen to any advise.these fish are too good to catch once.
Barra Bash!?

Good on ya Cracker Jack, its going to be huge this year.
Bassgirl - The Tinaroo Barra bash is one of the biggest Barra comps in Australia, and draws anglers from all around Australia - and just to let you know, I dont know why they called it the Bash', but I think we all love the name.
Warrior - Its been brought up countless amounts of time (C&R that is...). For some reason they dont like it. I think most anglers that go to the comp feel fairly upset when they see all the big barra hanging up. I know I do...

I wouldnt say its one of the biggest comps in Australia TT. Thats a bit over the top. There are many, many other comps around Australia that are heaps more popular.Originally Posted by TinarooTriumph
Comps like the BB will become less popular each year. People are becoming much more edjucated on the C&R debate, and rightly so. Our sport is under threat, and kill comps like the BB are not representing of the wider fishing community.
You CAN do something to make a difference. Speak to the local paper regarding your fears, spread the word how these fish are two valuable to throw in the bin after weigh in, and talk to the organisers and tackle shop owners. Brag mats and camera's are the way to go, who really cares what they weigh, there is little variation in length vs weight anyway.
You'll be well and truly on your way to getting a fishery up there that will rival Faust, Awoonga, Callide and Monduran if you succeed.
You will be surprised at the support you get once you get some momentum, including a very high percentage of support from this, and other websites.
Good luck.

Cheers Jas. Might just give that a go mate. A letter to the editor post in the Cairns post or something like that should errupt into something positive. Also a petition maybe??? We'll see how things pan out. I've got studies and all sorts of other $hit to concentrate on too... but this is a priority, unlike Studying
