Can anyone please HELP

Hi there...........Can anyone please help me???? Sorry to sound desperate, but I have recently moved to QLD from the UK and I really want to get into fishing, but dont know who to ask. Back in the UK I fished alot of the big freshwater open matchs, but appreciate its alot different out here. Im going on the Noosa river in 4 weeks time, what would be the best tactics to use and what sort of start up gear should I look at purchasing I have around $500. Any advice, tips or general help would be great THANKS

Hi there.......thanks for the advise that sounds spot on. Im 12 km out of Brisbane. Whats the fishing like on the Noosa river in general? any good? Where are you from?

hi damo, the fishind in noosa is great. There is excellent fishing for australian bass in the upper reaches above lake cootharaba but you will need aboat or canoe. I have had my best fishing from camp 3 up. down towards noosa itself there can be great sportfishing for trevally, small queenfish, tailor and if your lucky, mangrove jack. just look around in the areas near munna point and the woods as well as the canals. That's just afew options for you to start.

Hi Richard .........thanks for the advice, is it mainly lure fishing and spinning then or float fishing live baits. Sorry to sound such a novice.........

Pine River Shire, northern outskirts of Brisbane.

Noosa generally fishes OK, different species are more prevalent at various times of the year.
Plenty of land based access, beach, rocks & estuary.

I would be keeping away from rock fishing on the seaward headlands as it can be treacherous especially if you have little experience with that sort of fishing.

There's also freshwater fishing in the upper reaches of the Noosa (Aust Bass) and Lake McDonald (Aust Bass, Mary River Cod, Saratoga) near Cooroy. A boat or cannoe is advantageous in those places.

The gear you'll end up with wil depend on what sort of fishing (bait, lures) and specie you're interested in.

It may be worth your while joining a fishing club in your area.

Cheers Luc......I will look into it, back in the Uk it was all long pole fishing with fine lines and small baits. Is there any float fishing on the Rivers here or am I better using lures and spinners for the Bass etc. We are hiring a house boat and going up the river for the weekend??????

Nothing wrong with bait fishing. In some instance, suspending the bait under a float is a good way to go.

Fishing from the house boat, I would be using bait. If the houseboat comes with a small dinghy, you could try casting/trolling lures.

If you do end up in the upper reaches of the Noosa, lure casting for bass is a great way to spend a few hours. Early morning/late afternoon/evening, using surface lures is a buzz. Be warned, lure casting for bass is adictive

In the upper Noosa, I used to do a lot of fishing for bass using shrimps suspended under a float and fished near bankside structure such as logs, reeds, weedbed etc. Aussie Bass are absolute suckers for a well presented live shrimp.

where and what did u get the shrimps with. I'v always had trouble getting them but when i got a couple of them they worked a treat.
