    Locating Dams

As summer is approaching me and the family think we would like to take the boat to a dam and have a few days camping fishing and using the biskit.
We are located at Birkdale QLD near Wellington Point, does anyone have any suggestions for near by dams with reasonable camp sites and good fishing.

    Check out Fitzy's site:

Forget North Pine. No Boating, and I'm not sure where the camping is, if there is any.

Logan Inlet at Wivenhoe is nice, but boat must be electric powered, and you'll need a 4WD to Launch it.

Somerset has good facilities and the Ramp is still operational.

Cressbrook is beautiful, but a bit low on the wet stuff at the moment. (Speed restricted though)

Heading north, Borumba is worth a look, near Imbil.

Borumba is the go if your looking for a dam with water and great camping. Have to fight with the skiers though. If Cressbrook gets a bit more water it is definetly the nicest dam around the SE with good family camping facilities.

Nice dam, Cresbrook, but "dam" the Bass are small. 8 Kt speed limited due to a council that thinks it causes less errosion.

There's Moogerah and Maroon out Beaudesert way, plus a couple down near Stanthorpe and Warwick.

Then, there's Borumba which is probably the best dam for scenery (chick waterskiers) plus the surroundings, deer and excellent fishing for Bass and Toga's.

Lenthalls for Bass, Barra and more.....nice dam too.

Somerset, except the wake boats and speed freeks that don't know what 6 knots near a moored vessel means. Greta Bass fishing though.

Think i might hit tinaroo. Too many trees there for water skiers.

. Bay's, yes. Open water, hell no!. Plenty of room here, come and give it a fish mate - only if you know how to release large fish properly... . There are always plenty of water skiers on the water, don't let skiers deter you.

Try and get hold of the free Bass to Barra Trail book from your tackle shop or tourist information centre it covers the dams from Bielke Peterson dam in the south through to Awoonga in the north. The book gives you all the information on whats caught in each Lake , where to stay, plus a lot of other information on the areas around the lakes.

    Cheers Foxie
