HI CAPTN, SURPRISED NOBODY REPLIED TO THIS ONE AS EVERYBODY FISHES THERE. I PRESUME YOU ARE FISHING FROM A BOAT. IF USING BAIT, KEEP IT REAL, LIVE WORMS, SHRIMP CAN BE EASILY CAUGHT IF YOU ARE STAYING FOR A FEW DAYS. IF YOU CAN PICK UP A COUPLE OF LURES, A COUPLE FOR TROLLING SUCH AS HARDBODY BIBBED LURES WHICH DIVE TO 5-7MTRS AND A JACKAL VIBE OR MASK. IF YOU CAN FIND SCHOOLED BASS YOU CAN EITHER TROLL OR CAST AT THEM OR JUST FISH THE EDGES AS THE YELLA'S HAVE BEEN FIRING FROM THE EDGES IN WATER AS SHALLOW AS A METRE.

Thanks Darren , yeah like a dipstick I sent the same post twice, and had some helpful replys. Have a look and you will check out what I mean . A jackal mask and vibe ,are they hard bodied lures ? I will be fishing from a small tinny , not worth dragging the bigger offshore rig up that way , I hear theres not much water .... that should make it easier to get a feed ! What do you find the best eating ? Yeah looking forward to a bit of fresh , it;s been years.... I'll be on the water for sure, the wind won't blow a good weekend like it has down here on the coast lately CHEERS JIMMY

If you're heading out from Kirkleagh make sure you stick to the marked deep water untill you get to Pelican Point. Not that long ago I towed a Somerset newbe back to the ramp after he hit a submerged stump.

Re: Somerset Dam
Probably best to put in at the spit. I fished there quite regularly. Hopping jackalls over the flats at Queen st, entrance to beams creek and in the main basin around the spit will work OK. Or casting and retrieving plastics (Squdgies 60mm, Ecogear, or Sliders etc) in the same areas. Look for schools on your sounder or drop offs etc. Slow rolling jackalls and spinnerbaits also works well. Casting edges is great fun, usually best on cold winter days. Big bass and yellas haunt the edges.
hope that is some help.

Re: Somerset Dam
If you launch at the spit, be careful near the island, there's a few stumps just below the surface there too.

Re: Somerset Dam
Was out there again on Sunday. There are still some fish located at Queen Street wide but not as many as there were. Found some good school at the mouth of Beam Creek, hanging in around 30-36ft of water. Found they were shut down but did come on the chew for a while. If you have a fly rod with a sinking line, try using it with a fly such as a Bass Vampire. Had quite a few hits while the fish where shut down on other techniques. Also, Ice Jigs. Can turn a fishless day into an awesome session. As for Sliders, Baby Bass and Smoke Yellow Core seem to be producing. I use 1/2 once to 5/8 jig heads, depends on the wind. And the good old Mask Vibs and TN60 Jackals. Haven't done as well of late on the Jackals. Hope this helps. If you see a Hornet out there called Sniper, come over and say hi.
Cheers
