I am gonna stock my parents dam with some fish, but I fear there is some eels in there. Is there a preferred way of catching them, apart from netting (dam is too big 50m x 70m)

You will never get rid of them. They will swim back in with the next flood. Not sure how many they would eat. It would depend upon whats in there already ie. guppies. Natives are pretty hardy so should be fine with the eels.
Pete.
Although i've never intentionally fished for them i've caught them on worms and frozen prawns, but Pete is right, they'll just make there way back; they can roll over land for a considerable distance!
Tim.

G'day mate i fish for eels often and the best bait i find is just a piece of cheap red meat. Cut into small pieces and bait up your hook with a running sinker.
Cheers
they will eat anything you put on your hook but try any type of fish gut . edd
hi talking about eels how do you cath one in moving water or dams
I'd spend the extra dough and stock with 150mm sized fish. If there is eels, between the eels and the heron's and shags you will probably lose most fingerling's, unless you have heavy lily cover.
