G,day fisho,s.
I,ve just bought a pair of penn spinnfisher, 650 and 850. will use them on 7 foot livefiber blanks.I will be using the 650 with 6 to 8 kg tossing slices and the odd bit of trolling baiting. On my baitcasters i love fireline,i,m wondering if mono or braid is the go.?type/brand size colour/ The 850 will be used as more of a heavy 10 kg spin for macs ,trev,s and marlin or what ever happens to fall victim to my offering. What mono or braid would be the go.??? brands / size/colour ??? Like i said I,m a big fan of firerline,I like good stuff.
regards big george.
I'm dabbling with some 30lb Bionic on my spin outfit. Not caught enough to give a decent report as yet but wait for those longtails to turn up.Before that I was fishing Platypus Platinum.
Used fireline on my smaller spin outfit and it "feathered" very quickly, which I didn't like.
struth george you'll want some backing or a personal loan. The 6500 will easily take 400m+ of braid to spool for casting - the 8500 600m+.
And have your drag set & well maintained to 1/3 cause braid isn't as forgiving nylon when the speedsters hit. Myself, I use Berkley Trilene (nylon) for the job. I only use braid for trolling, not enough $$$ to do otherwise.
g'day fellas i use mono on all my rods although have tried braid and its good but bloody expensive . The other reason iuse mono is that i grew up using that and iam used to it and like chris said if u get a big hit and the fish takes off like a bat out of hell it can snap just like that .
Try using platinum or pink they are both good lines.
I'm a big fan of braid and use on plenty of my outfits. However, when it comes to a large reel for throwing slugs I prefer mono, usually Super 100. Think its a bit more invisible in the water when dragging through schools of fish.
hi john
i use fire line in flame green.
14 pound[breaks at over 30] in the creeks with 45 pound leader. In the dam[faust] 20 pound[over 40] with 2 meters of 70 pound schnider, still lost a few ,cutting the leader.Tie small dubble[ 25-30 turn bim] attach leader with a reverse albright. Don,t use snaps, attach lure with loop knott Swano used 40 pound spider wire at the begining of the trip[ approx 2 yaers old] i was prety impressed. After a few lost fish and shorting in the faust timber he used 20 pound fireline[manly because i had a 1000 yard spool]
mates just turned up to take my 9 year old boy and my self fishing ,gotta go [cod spinning]
