hey guys,
ive got a 10 ft cast net i got from northside marine with 3/4 inch mesh but no top pocket. its proven to be a really great net that opens every time and has been pretty strong to with few knots slipping and that kind of thing. had it for a few years and would like to get myself a top pocket to chase these prawns around at the moment.
and does everyone like the top pocket or is one without just as good. i mainly chase bait in the estuaries but a prawn or two for dinner is nice too. how much am i lookin at here too in the way of cost and travel.
I've got a top pocket and wouldn't swap it for anything. Great for when the prawns are on as you can get them out quickly and throw again. I still have no trouble getting bait with it also.
Fred, Iam assuming you want to get a top pocket sown in to the net you have? sorry can't help. The top pocket is great for prawns though because they jump up the net, often pulling the net up in deeper water they simply fall out without one, its rare to get small fish in the top pocket which is very handy when your prawning, keep your eye out for bullrouts in the net
im actually looking for a brand new cast net, i still want to keep the smaller one for tighter areas in the creeks and stuff and in new areas so i dont snag my brand new net the first time.
ive seen top pockets being thrown before and it appears that the top pocket restricts their opening. this could just be the case with the cheaper nets though. i think the best are the hand made ones from locals ive heard but are quite expensive. does anyone know where i can ask and much much is the thing going to cost?
