Hi all
I recently purchased a Triton 30 second hand reel, it is spooled with siglon 50 lb as I recall. My primary use for the reel will be bottom bashing not trolling. The reel hasn't been used much and the line looks in good condition so my question is should I load it with braid or trust the line that is loaded onto it?
A bit more history of the reel, the last fish it caught was a 30 lb coral trout (ok the bragging rights are mine, I was using it as a loaner at the time).
Thin mono like that is good for bottom donging but in water over 100m braid is better, especially off brissie where fish are hard to come by, if you fish round reefs with big trout youd lose plenty of gear I bet and the water would be shallower, mono is more expendable
I sometimes use Siglon leader material on the fly when chasing jacks. Real good abrasion resistance BUT shit to tie knots - real hard stuff.
Braid is the go. Use a momo leader of your choosing. I use 80lb. You feel EVERY tap from a fish with braid. We nailed some good trout last year up north using braid that I thought were pickers because we were getting tap, tap, tap at the end. Strike and come up hard on trout - BONUS - don't give them an inch.
