Well boys and girls i finally got my hands on a split cane fly rod. now the questions start. I want to remove the cork grip and real seat from the rod without damaging the cane underneath. is there any prescribed method used such as some form of glue removing wonder lube . your thoughts and suggestions appreciated as its definately a case of get it right the first time.
cheers
Mick
Hi landy
You can try boiling water, slow heat from a lighterto help melt the glue, or in drastic cases a small hacksaw for the real seat. with Cork u can carefully cut off with a sharp stanly(always take your time) or try visiting www.mudhole.com - rod building 101 for further ideas.
good luck
as it is addictive

As count baysea says Careful work with a stanley and a hacksaw blade, but I would be careful with the boiling water on the cane though. Rather than a lighter I would try a hair dryer or paint stripper heat gun. You only get one chance with an old cane rod.
