Knot options for 20lb braid to mono leader
I've used the Blood knot (I think!) for 6lb Fireline to 6lb leader when chasing brim but would like to know if the same knot is used for heavier setups ie. 20lb braid (non-coated Fenwick Ironthread) to 20 - 25lb mono? Does the knot get too big & bump the guides on the way though or do you use a shorter leader so the knot doesn't enter the guides? Any advise & links to step by step guides is appreciated.

Fozster,
Welcome to ausfish.
Heres a link to a heap of useful knots. Try em out with what you are using and lets us know how you go.
Cheers,
Jeff

Try the improved Albright and then just pass the braid end through the mono eye twice on the wind back to lock the knot completely. It's slim and as strong as any knot I've tried and runs through the rod guides without a hitch. You can have a look HERE at the Version I use.

We just use a uni knot line joiner.
Do 3 wraps with the mono and 6 wraps with the braid.
Never had that one let go yet

Re: Knot options for 20lb braid to mono leader
I use the albright as shown in bushbashers illustration, havnt tried the double eye pass yet but will, have had issues with many knots in braid and found superglue and loctite 406 on the knot works wonders.

Re: Knot options for 20lb braid to mono leader
who would ever thought superglue would be part of a fishing kit sure does work wonders on all superlines but

Bimini and a "no name" or reverse albright is a good option. I've fished up to a 60lb leader and 20lb main using this on jacks. Not had a knot let me down yet BUT trebles and rings

Re: Knot options for 20lb braid to mono leader
see Harro's site thorugh Ausfish, he has just placed a fair bit of discussion on which knot is the best for braid. Be careful using superglue around braid, it can have a funny reaction in salt water and let the knot slip.

Re: Knot options for 20lb braid to mono leader
stilltryin, what do you mean by "be careful" ? i always allow the glue to harden before i subject the knot to saltwater?
i have witnessed knots without glue having a "funny reaction" to pressure or salt water, they slip as well id like to know more about this funny reaction, you got me baffled ???

Re: Knot options for 20lb braid to mono leader
mackmauler,
Try Harro for a detailed reason, but we used it on a number of lines and the glue let go, it reacted chemically with the salt water and broke down. Tried the original superglue and a few substitutes, but somehow it had the same results and at the wrong time.
Changed over to epoxy with no problems.
