secure rod tube
Just would like some comment on making the old 4 inch poly rod tube on the roofrack a bit secure to keep out any honest theives. Can you get caps that will allow a padlock to be fitted? What have you guys come up with or seen lately?
Thanks

Re: secure rod tube
ive got 100mm PVC pipes on the roof rack of my pajero.. one is a water tank.. 2200mm long and the other is a rod tube at the same length, i fitted the rod tube with a solid end and a screw on end at the rear of the truck, to that i fitted a lock system.. its on pretty tight and very solid.. but its PVC.. you can expect tons of security.. but it'd certainly keep people out.. ill go take some picts of it and u can check it out

Re: secure rod tube
As you can see, its simple but very solid, got pop rivets holding the latch bit on, and that wont come off anytime.. its very solid, i used screws on the lock bit and put small lock nuts on the inside after shortening them so they dont scratch or mark any rods and dont take up space.. only problem is aligning the cap right so when you do it up, the latch folds over in the right spot and can be locked..

Thanks Tim - that was exactly what I was after! Will head on over to the hardware tonight to get the components.

Re: secure rod tube
yea, the setup is simple but effective, i used it to carry my rods on a trip to 1770/Agnes Waters.. properly layed out.. the 100mm tube carried 14 rods.. from 15kg reef jigging sticks to my bream plastic flicking sticks..
