It basically comes down to personal preference.
I have been lead to believe that the shimanos drag system is better than the penns, but the penns axle??? is alot stronger

If you are budget conscience or do some livebaiting don't discount the TLD 2 Speed 50.

Go the Tiagra. They leave the TLD's for dead. ;)

I'd go a tiagra every the time.
It's the sealed drag system in the tiagra that makes it shine above the penn.
Penn inter drags tend to go jerky when wet - it's a common complaint.
Look on the back of most game boats during a tourney and you'll find the tiagras dominate but a substantial margin

What is wrong with the Penn? ???
I use penn internationals and thinkthey are great. They arein the middle of the price range but are just as good as Tiagra.
