Hey Fellas

soooo.... i dont wanna spend another $180 on line to be cut off again

i want strong, thin line that can take a bit of hammering on the rocks

Bloody inconsiderate boats aye. Ive always been a believer in Platypus Pre Test, not sure about how it would go for LBG though

Are you going to try and catch a boat :D
What size was your Fireline. I don't like using braid of the rocks... If you test my theory try rubbing braid against a rock. It snaps pretty easy when its under pressure. I think it is because the no strech bussines. I think trline aint too bad.

I reckon there are about half a dozen monos that will get the job done. My favourite is Platypus Platinum, followed by Trilene Big Game. Some freinds of mine, who have done LBG for a bit longer, swear by Ande Pink and tortue.

One piece of advice I can give is NOT to buy bulk spools (i.e 1000m) of mono, which can be tempting for spooling up big overheads, this has cost me some good fish in the past. These are rarely quality tested while the smaller 500m spools are, but it varies between brands.

Trilene is nasty stuff. Ande Pink or Hawk Pink are excellent. Hawk is cheaper but it is the same product. I spool up my game outfits with Hawk pink and I am slowly converting most of my other reels to it. Torture is also excellent off the rocks. Ande/Hawk and torture are my only choices these days when it comes to mono, they're simply the best.

I have converted most of my reels to Hawk. Half the price of some other monos and less stretch.

Ande / hawke / torture / blackmajic are the best for the rocks.
Triline has been given a bad rap by many fisho's that have used it before....
Ive brought 4000y of 6kg & 3000y of 10kg of Ande, from this US site in the past..... great service....works out about $50AUS a spool

I reckon Trilene is allright, I remember pushing 10kg trilene big game to the limit on my first northern bluefin (16kg) a few years back on an Abu 7000. Since that day I have continued using it. Another line I forgot to mention is black magic. A friend of mine hooked a huge tuna on a shimano trinidad with 1km of 6kg black magic. Things were getting ugly when he could see the spool so he decided to completely thumb it (not recommended!). Unbelievably that fish made it to the gaff.

I used to have all my overheads spooled with trilene. I had too many unexplained line failures. The quality control on this line is poor. If you have a micrometer at home, do a test on your trilene and see the difference in line diamter in say 20 metres of line. You will get huge differences whereas with good lines, the differences will be very minor. It doesn't knot well and it's abrasion resistance isn't crash hot either. Out of all monos on the market, I'd have to say that triline gets the most bad press by far. So many people label it as rubbish, not just me.

Even if I was exaggerating a bit, there is no way its a better line than Hawk/Ande. Hawk has the perfect amount of stretch, perfect diameter, knots very well, is supple and has good abrasion resistance.
