Anyone know of any specials on Gurnies, in Brizzy or Gold Coast.

I've been told Pacific are a good brand.

K Mart are doing a special on an RGM compact water blaster. It states 1450 watts but no mention of PSI.

Any comments?

Cheers

Kev

As well as looking for the PSI see if they have a rated use time. Some of the smaller, cheaper units have a note on them that they are not for continuos use, or rated for 10 minutes continuous use, and similar statements.

You may not find this info printed on the box so see if you can view the instruction book before buying.

Also make sure they come with a stainless steel gun and lance not plastic components like some.

Not sure what you are looking at paying but have a look at Trade Tools, they seem to sell good quality gear - http://www.tradetools.com.au/

i think glenfords or one of the other industrial tool shops is having a special on an imported small high presure cleaner - including the very high pressure lance. It was in last sunday mail $149 I think. (but don't quote me) - glenfords normally don't stock crap - they need to keep a rep with tradesmen

Have a look at the Alto from Bunnings. Brass /metal pump and reasonable price I've had one for a year with no problems, a friend bought one recently and loves it. [smiley=2thumbsup.gif]

I have used a small Karcher that was more expensive and nowhere as good.

Thanks for the replies.

I had a good look round and although there were a few that I really fancied (at 1500psi) I couldn't justify (to the deckie) spending that much. Just on the off chance, I stopped into super cheap auto and they were doing a 1600 psi at 160 bucks (SuperWorks) with overheat cut out, but the spray gun seemed a bit iffy being rated at only 1400psi and very light and "plasticky".

They also had a smaller version rated 1015 psi on special at 70 bucks which strangely had a spray gun rated at 2200 psi? It doesn't have an overheat cutout but comes with a 2 year warranty and a much more solid spray gun, so I thought, "what the hell?" I asked 'em could I bring it back in an hour if it wasn't powerful enough and they agreed.

It did the job and actually seems as powerful as some 1500's I've seen on the go. If I get 2 yrs out of it at that price, then I'll be happy. If I don't.......then there's always the warranty :-)

Just watch the cheaper ones, they are a plastic compressor, I have a small Karcher (with a plastic compressor) and sent it back the first week to get repaired. The shop told me to use it like a drill, on, off, on, off, on, off ..... this lasted all of about 20mins and then craped itself. I now just run it and run it, over half an hr a go and its still running fine

Yeah bungie, my mate warned me about that. He said the easiest way to "guess" is by the weight. This one weighs a lot heavier that the similar size Karcher.

Kev I only ever get the el cheapo's and they do the job fine.
Much better then the garden hose.
I keep the trigger constantly engaged with a zip tie so it does not hammer the pump and destroy it.
If and when it dies I willjust get another.
You get what you pay for and I am not about to spend big bucks for a household cleaner.

What's with this "household" bit Kev? Oh! I get it! You practically live in your boat do you? :-)

Do you guys use any soapy stuff with the HP cleaner, or just the pressure of fresh water to get everything clean?

Household as in it is used for domestic duties and not industrial.
We use a $10k Gurney at work, extra hot water and steam and it is industrial.Shifts the tihs off pretty good as well.
Dr I use truck wash on the boat, I spray it on with a weed sprayer thing and the soap seems to break the salt down.

Do have to be a bit careful with the gurney around decals and some paintwork.

I blew some pin-striping off with very little effort.

I would also be careful around the "greased" parts of the engine. The last thing you want is to blast water into these pivots and joints that should have a healthy layer of grease in them. The end of teleflex type steering is another sensitive area.

Another area to watch is if you have any "onion rings" in your gelcoat. These are the fine cracks that you get if you slip on the deck etc and come down on your knee. Or if you bang into the dock etc. The high pressure water blast can lift off small chunks of the cracked gelcoat if it is damaged

Moral of the story, use it to your benefit, but use it wisely.
