I can get a TLD25 for $260
but i dont know much about the taipans & their value

The deal doesnt sound to bad since most tackle stores sell the tld25 for $250 by itself

so i reckon it might be a good deal-just depeds on the rod

cheers

Hey JJ,
I have never actually used a TLD , so excuse my ignorance if it is a stupid question, but, can the be used as both overhead and under Rod? :P

Seahunt ...small game reel ....overhead only !

for a single speed that would not be much of a bargain , just about average ...

if it's a 2 speed ....snap it up !

Nah, 2speeds come in 30 & 50
tld's as billo said is small game reels and they are overheads, best small overhead for game fish you can buy i reckon

cheers

I had a good look at it ,I realise it is a small game reel.. But still maybe too big for me just yet.. I think the TLD 20's come in 2 speed, maybe I should be checking those out instead.. AMART only had 15's and 25's. I only have a good Alvey and a few egg beaters ,one is a pretty good Shimano, but its not ideal if you get something pretty big on. For a start you can only get about 180 yds of 15 lb line on.

The TLD 30 has the same spool capacity as the TLD 25.
Question to JJ, where are these tackle shops that sell TLD 25's for $250? I think you will find that most sell them for $325 to $350.

Im agreeing with 'clutter' on this matter.. most 'normal' tackle outlets will sell u a tld25 for about $325-$350. a m@rt all sports does have a deal on at the moment which is a pretty good combo price, you could probably haggle them for a spool of line too,..

Also, someone else mentioned MO Tackles deal on the tlds, definatly $299 for the combo and some line! Ive never heard of $250 but maybe it does exist.

Mr Seahunt, i might suggest that you assess what you really want this rod/reel package for? $$$ vs useage is something to think about and don't mean to undermine yur skills or confidence , BUT you should have a good understanding on "how" a reel works before outlaying yur hard earnt $$$.

above I have proof that $250 is realistic and available...

Dear Mr_phishy,
I do believe I have a basic understanding of how reels work in general, having used
and repaired my own for the last 30 years.
My knowledge is limited in that I have always had either side cast , eggbeaters or baitcasters. My reel selection was probably limited by being land based.
About 5 years ago I got my first boat, it was old and I was not overly confident about venturing out too far. Two years ago I bought a new boat and now I get out a lot more and a lot further.
You only have to get spooled once using 200 metres of 20 lb braid , which is about all that will fit on my Shimano Aernos XT 8000 , to know that maybe an eggbeater is just not quite up to the job, so what I want is probably (but feel free to suggest) a light game reel on an overhead rod that can hold a reasonable amout of line. And , provided I don't get ripped off, the money is not an issue.
Thankyou.

I love my TLD25 Combo from THAT store. Best price by miles. They even threw in a quality spray jacket. Go forth and buy!
