Gaday folks...Just wondering if you can buy the auto pick up for the live bait tank (the one that iv'e seen had the water pump sitting on it)or do i have to get it custom made.It just seems easier than having to bolt on a bait pump as well as a pick up...
Regards...Kunnara

what you call an autopickup sounds to me like a scoop which consists of a piece of stainless angle with a curved stainless tube underneath you can pick them up at most boat shops chandleries and whittworths for about 40 bucks :GOODOO

Ok folks..I found the pickup i was after but the guy that sold it too me had no idea about the pump that fits on it..Is there a bilge pump that sucks from the bottom and is sealed on the sides????

Rule does a pump designed for the purpose. There are two models, one has the pick-up straight down the other has a pick-up at ninety degrees. Both are 500gph.

Kunnara,
You don't need to worry about the bottom being sealed. The scoop will pump plenty of water even with a normal bottom on a pump.

Further to Tony's post, they are the Rules I use. Just cut a 45 degree bit on the pickup and build your own bracket. Had two on each of my last two boat. Around $70-80. Here is a picture of my Coke Bottle Tuna Tube on my 15'er.

Please excuse my ignorance here, but having never been tuna fishing what does a tuna tube do?

Catch a tuna, put him in head first, run him to the spot you want to fish him i.e. continetal shelf for Marlin or prominent reef for Wahoo and Spanish Mackerel, bridle him up, swim him out the back and hang on. By having them in head first with the pump on water is forced over their gills keeping them alive. Baits from about Tailor or Bonito size up don't stay alive in normal size live bait tanks. Only had one Tuna Tube on my little boat which was O.K. as it allowed you to rig one up while another was awaiting in the Tuna Tube but on my previous boat I had two so you could catch two then run them to wherever you wanted. The point of the picture was to show the type of Rule pump and how to mount it. They are designed for through hull applications but then you would still need a dedicated pick up line. The way I mount them does both jobs. A mate with a Seafarer has just the through hull setup and it seems to get a lot of airlocks and is a pain in the arse.

Some don't survive and some go all day. No BS.

Smithy,
Thanks for that, never used one before just put them back out as soon as you spin them up but to be able to have a couple on hand would be all the better
