I like a TLD 20 & Live fibre 10-15 kg or a TLD 25 & Live Fibre M10 10-24kg. Both of these work a treat. There are some cheap TLD combos around but I dont know what the rods are like to use.

TLD is the benchmark for offshore fishing, no levelwind so you need to lay the line on the spool manually.
If you have not the experience and have the bickies go a Charter Special or maybe an Okuma or Penn

Hi Cassidy
I bought a Shimano Charter Special early this year - mostly because I really wanted a Lever Drag reel and wasn't confident enough with an overhead without a level wind (ie the TLD's). I have it linked to an Ugly Stik (virtually unbreakable rod) and use 30lb fireline with it. I think for an overhead novice, this is an excellent outfit, I used the very good advice available on this forum to help me decide on it and I'm as pleased as Punch!! I really cant recommend it highly enough. Already it has caught me some very substantial fish including Cobia and Mulloway. Some say that particularly for trolling the reel should have mono line to prevent pullling the hooks out of the fish since the braid doesn't have enough stretch. I think that when it gets to be trolling season again down here I will invest in the Harro Knotted dogs that are bannered on this site rather than convert to mono. I also have a spinning outfit daiwa Emblem Pro/ UStik/ 20#FL that doubles as a float liner at the moment. (the jury is still out on this reel for me)
I still need another overhead and will get a TLD now that I feel more confident and will link it to a Wilson Live Fibre. Also need a dedicated float liner and will get a Shimano baitrunner (6500) mono line and another wilson rod. These are dependent (so I'm told by The Treasurer) on me selling my 15ft glass boat.
This post has rambled on a bit -- but just one more thing - you need to be aware that the Charter Special (especially the ChSp) and the TLD's are NOT casting rods by any stretch of the imagination
good luck
Tony

G'day Cassidy
Check your direct mail - The moderator here does not approve of people listing commercial outlets. I have given you the addresses of a couple of places to try - but remember to also have a chat to your local Bait and Tackle guys. It is often very worthwhile to spend a little more for the gear and to be able to take advantage of the free info on tap in your home town (more on this and some other stuff in the direct mail)
cheers
Tony
