These are the standard rod holders you get from marine shops. :( ive installed 4 new ones that are up to any challenge id think lol, wallet hurts but at the price of rods good piece of mind, something to think about anyway if your in the market.

blaze, no dont use clips...have thought about it and am getting around to it.

chris, those holders are not used for travelling any faster than troll speed, it could be anything from wrestling the rod to hard when loaded up recoil from lost fish, i dunno..they are just useless so beware ;D

im like Rob have had bad experence with cheap rod holders.
Cloud 9 has solid Stainless steel rod holders ( Cast ) not welded. $25 each i think.
cheaper than 2 or $300 rod

Rob,

It wouldn't be putting the rod in the holder and winching up giant cod or AJs from 100 metres would it ;)

PS don't kill Pete today.

Isn't there a law of physics which states "anything attached to a boat will break sooner than expected thus keeping the owner in the poor-house" ?? I think this was first discovered by the Vikings.

Sheeez.

Would you believe it, I have just bought 8 of those damn things on special at Whitworths and thought I got a bargain.

Grrrrr.

Thanks for puting the post up and letting us know, I will now only fit them as side holders and fit heavier duty ones across the back.

I will also keep some for replacements when the others fail.

They are the ones that are just tacked on?? Bloody rubbish.

If you do get clip for your rods, make them yourself ( cheaper ) but make them long. Long enough for you to be able to get your rod out & strike. Nothing worse than having a fish on & having to fight with the clip so you can't get your rod out.

With the new ones you got, did you get the rubber pad that goes between rod holder & boat?
