Hi
Looking at getting a live fibre surf rod to match the Alvey 6500BCVRR Reel I just bought off Ausfish. Has anyone used these before and if so what are your thoughts on them.
Thinking of running 9kg mono line on it but also intersted in perhaps looking at braid. Has anyone ever used braid on an Alvey.
All help appreciated.
Thanks.

I just got a wilson blue series recently derek. Its the big 13'6 in the range
Casting power plus+++
Butt could be one inch shorter for my liking.
Almost to much grunt, i found i was pulling hooks out of average fish in the shore break - unaware of just how much stick the rod itself was giving the fish - as compared to the Butterworth Powergraph I'd been using for a decade. I'm sure I will adapt though. They have a very nice build & feel.
I wouldn't use braid on an alvey. The line cuts on my index from sudden runs at night & dry nylon are bad enough. Besides the cushioning effect of nylon's elesticity is a plus in the shore break. Also as I don't use pillies much, I tend to feed baits rather than "striking bites".
In the daylight for dart & whiting I watch the bow in the line rather than the tip. If the fish biting your bait won't take it in whole; either the fish is spooked, is smaller than what you are targeting or your bait is too big. None of which braid will help. Braid will simply let you feel what you're missing.
