Anyone had any luck with reasonable freight rates from the US?
I'm just after $40 US worth of gear (cables for the Humminbird). They all want to hit me with $50-$80USD in freight and all I want is the 250gram envelope to be airmailed. If thats the go I'll give it a miss.

yerh its usually around $40 or $50 usd to ship
unless you go surface mail but you will be waiting months for delivery then
might save you $20usd though

Look at http://www.usps.com/tools/calculatepostage/welcome.htm?from=home&page=0061calculatepostage

Get them to send it via one of the cheaper options. Recently had some trailer lights sent over for US$8, when the original quote was US$35! They took 4 working days to get here.

Best thing is to ring the supplier and speak to them in person.

Cheers

All depends on how they are shipping them. If sending UPS then the quote could be right. But not if comming in through USPS. I had a sounder & VHF sent over last month & the cost was $83.00 US, and that was Global EMS delivered within 7 days with tracking number. Could have saved $20.00 US by having it come through normal air mail or saved even more if it went via surface mail.

That quote sounds like UPS or the selling it trying to make a buck on you.

For the cables normal USPS airmail should suffice. 7 - 14 day delivery & shouldn't cost you more than around $10 - 15 US.

Yeah thats what I figured but I might have to talk to them to get normal airmail rates like you said. $10-15 is fine and makes it worthwhile.

Why don't you ring Bass pro on the Australian toll free number and discuss the shipping charges with them directly in person.

Damn fine point there Mark, I was after both the GPS and PC cables and I'll see what they end up with before I order US. If its only a couple of bucks difference I'll order here.
Thanks for all the tips guys. :)

The cool thing in the US is that you specify your GPS as well for the $29US ie Garmin, Magellan etc so it is complete.
