Thinking of buying one but i havent got any feed back from boatties that use them. I would be useing them in offshore conditions, so if you can suggest a brand to buy to.
Thanks Chris

i have one and i love it for when i'm on a drift outside
it sure slows you down heaps
not sure of my brand but would highly recomend getting one if you plan on doing any driffting
and i know of blokes that anchor up and drift baits down that use them to help from swaying. It holds then almost straght ;D

great for slowing you down while on the drift. we use ours all the time.
It means the difference between getting your line down or not at all, they make such a difference.

Drop it off a stern cleat and you drift slower and with a lot more control. Really helps floating baits when drifting. All the brands I have used have looked the same.

I think I fish the same sort of area as you do. I use mine nearly every time I go out. I have a Haines 580 SLF and a 7' diameter para-anchor. I got it from Para-anchors Australia after recieving a recommendation about them. There details are:
Para-Anchors Australia
PO Box 1377
Sale Vic 3850
Ph: (03) 5144 1244
If you talk to Alby and give you the details of your boat he will help you choose the correct one.

By the looks of it i will have to get one. Is there no down side to them eg
wind direction
fish getting caught up in them, when winding your line up
when putting a floatter out does it put off the fish bite
Thanks fellas for the info so far.

Spiro,
Have never had any issues with mine. Can always manage to keep lines away from it & slip a rod under the rope if a fish happens to run near it.
Just tie it off one of the rear cleats & your away.
The brand I use is Lalizas
I got the XXL 1.9 dia x 1.45 L, from Whitworths. A fraction of the cost of a para anchor & just as good. Slows our 20fter down to a nice slow drift when others are racing along.

Hey Chris, got ours at the boat show few years ago. Worth every cent mate, especially fishing water around 60m + with current and wind. Its amazing how much it can slow your drift

Have been told that this type of "Aparatus" (been watching too much olympic gymnastics ;D) could be useful for me in order to reduce my idle/trolling speed while targeting impoundment natives with lures. Does anybody have any comments or experiences with this item when used in this fashion ?
Thanks

in impoundments
i use to use 2x20ltr buckets (the ones with plastic handles) which i get for free and put a short bit of rope on them and hang them out the back works great #and very very cheap # ;D ;D ;D ;D

Chris, when the wind is blowing, a sea anchor makes a huge difference. I have tried a couple of different brands (can't remember their names), but they all seem to work well. I have never had any trouble with them being in the way. They are a must have, IMO. You should be able to get a good deal at he show.
Cheers,
Mark

it surprise me you have not got one ..
i am onto my third one now.... ;D
first one never tired on proper... :-[
second broke the cleat off the back... :-[
third is still in the boat and this time has a float on it.. ::)
yes they are a pain in the arse sometimes out the back
specially when they get hooked up by the crew....
i have tired a knot in the strings of mine, it appears to work better...
tuck them away when travelling or else one of the crew could find themselves para flying out the back holding on...
tie a spare rope onto the float for easy retrive back into boat...
this way of fishing is why i put long shaft motors on the cat ...
