My trusty and now a little rusty Leatherman Tool is difficult to use. I left it in my tackle box and it must have been wet with saltwater. Has anyone got any bright ideas of how to clean off the rusty marks and free it up. I have given it a spray with INOX but to no avail.

Neil,
You should be able to clean off the rust marks with a good metal polish from any auto supply outlet.
To free it up may take a number of applications of penetrating oil - same source.

Drown it in CRC or some other water displacing lubricant, Work the lubricant into the tool, place it in a sealed Zip-loc bag and leave it in the sun for the day allowing things to warm up.
Then clean it up as Neil has mentioned.
Leatherman tools have a lifetime guarantee. I broke mine (8 yr old), and sent it back they fixed it and polished it all up for me.
Good luck..

50/50 mix of water and vinegar - use a soft rag to rub of the obvious surface rust.
Penetrating oil worked into the hinged bits - cover it in a ziplock bag and leave it in the sun to warm up for a few hours.
Ask the wife very nicely to go and do some shopping. While she is away, throw the leatherman into the dishwasher with all the tools opened up. Run the dishwasher on the highest temperature setting and make sure the cycle completes before the wife comes back. A very tricky and risky options but well worth a try:)
On another note more personal note:
If any person has any idea on how to find a leatherman that has been accidentally dropped overboard by a mate in 20 meters of water, then please help out. My mate is off course very sorry for what he has done, and the whole event is still too painfull for me to discuss even over a beer. I have booked myself in for therapy and hope I will be able to forgive him one day :(
The official remebrance service for my trusty old leatherman will be this Thursday evening at the local pub if anybody care to join in. The life of a trusty old friend should not be cut short like that - it is just wrong:(
Time for me to take my medication and have a bit of a liedown.
Regards
Wessel

ya not meant to drink it straight,
I dilute mine with equal parts rum,

Thanks for the ideas. Let me get this right. Do I have to drink the rum straight if the leatherman is soaking in the coke?
