Just a quick question, my 6500 C4 has a line capacity of 245 yds / 14 lbs. If I were to use low diameter line (fireline/spiderwire etc), how safe am I to increase the strength of the line to it's limit ?
Im assuming the reel is mighty tough and that I could go to whatever will fit on the spool (ie: ~20-30lb ?) without too many hassles except maybe the life of the drag washers :)
Ild rather be safer than feeling sorry for myself having the reel blow up in a million pieces.

you could fish the reel with wire rope if you set your drag to 3-4 kg of drag, its only when you lock up your drag you will have a problem with exploding reels and snapped rods

ps
simple answer is yes

as blaze said its all possible but its the amount of drag that reel can hold. Im thinking around 3kg.

I reckon if your drag is smooth you should be able to set it at around 3 to 4 kilo but i stress the words SMOOTH DRAG.
Like Blaze said if you lock up that drag it may cause damage to your reel.
Cheers Brent ;)

i use my 6500 C4 when i went up to cape flattery to catch spanish macks, GT`s/ Turum, queenie`s ect. its loaded with 50lb mono cause i was sick of getting cut off around the pileons and as long as i pulled it apart and cleaned it each time i never had any problem. i also had a C3 before this one and it handled the same stress aswell.
