Hi all
Im thinking of putting some braid on one of my baitrunner (6500) reels and would like to know about how, how much, all braid or braid on mono, strength etc.
Im only new to braid therefore I have no idea about how to do this and any help would be appreciated. ;) ::)
I will be fishing in the bay in and around the islands and reefs.

Thanks in advance
Adrian

your best to have a mono backing
first because if you didn't you may need to get a loan to pay for the braid it would take to fill a 6500 and second to give the braid something to bite into on and stop it from slipping on the spool
not sure of what class your looking at of what type fishing but i would surgest looking at some of harro's bionic braid in 30lb+ for a reel like that
cost umm hell not real sure but looking at some thing like $30+ ;D

Adrian,

I have braid on all my rigs. As you have 2 baitrunners, you may want to do the braid thing on the one you are likely to use off shore first as you are possibly going to get the most gain from braid in deeper water.

Before getting braid for my overhead, mackmauler convinced me to go heavier than I intended. Not that I needed the heavier breaking strain, but because you get the benefit of durability. A slight weak or worn spot on 50ld is better than a weak spot on 20lb. So I went 50 on the overhead and am happy with it. for the 6500, you really would not need anything over 20lb. But if you add in a bit of mackmauler reasoning, then you may want to go to maybe 30lb'ish.

Mark (Seasaw) has helped balance it all by suggesting I adjust my leader down (to ensure the mono breaks before the braid), and my trace up (to handle rough terrain or wire weed)

But if you plan on using it for spinning, your mono seemes to do just as good as my braid did. (That was 20lb)

I run 300m of 30lb super braid on my 6500 with probably at least another 200m of 20lb mono as backing. Works a treat, have had it on for about 4 to 5 years now with no breakages at all in the braid.

Come on Adrian, give those fish a sporting chance..lol
Mate go for the 20lb bionic braid and use mono backing so as to fill the reel to capacity....Steve has 300 yards on special for $64......normally $79
That setup would be ideal for deep water but if you intend chasing squire/snapper in the bay i would stop at 12lb braid.
Mate we are pulling in 50cm squire on 6lb fireline no problem at all.
Only a few weeks to go mate and we will out there rounding up those snapper...lol
Cheers Brent ;)
