Been reading articles about mackerel fishing and the like where they recommend wire traces. They talk about tying haywire twist etc.
I was just wondering if the wire people on the site have tried the knottable wire tresse and if so what they thought of it ??

Think you'll find single strand is thinner.

we did not lose a single rig last xmas holidays using nylon and 4 ganged 6/0s. You just gotta be quick once that chew starts to strike before the fish runs up the rig - maybe it was luck... funny same happened the Xmas before too.

Gunna, i use the shortest length, thin enough to do the job multi strand, n crimped onto a three ganged hook rigup..6/0-7/0 mustard 7200's me thinks they are ??depending on size of Pilles..Personally i dont like long wire trace n find the catch rate much better ;)..
Knotable wire??,thin stuff good for Salmon, again short..
My two bobs worth..

anyone tried using mono rigged live baits for mackerel?
Pillies do work well sometimes, but livies are a better all round bait.
I rig my livies on two 6/0 big gun hooks with haywire twisted 58 lb single strand.
Have not tried the knottable steel trace, but isn't it made of many thinner strands? Will be bitten through eventually.

Devo, single strand has gotta be much thinner (for given strength) so harder to see. Also going by the theory that sharks sense magnetic fields from wire, maybe the single strand wire means less sharks?
Anyway, works for you, works for me ;D

Tried wire when I first went Mackerel hunting and never got a touch. These days I use about 2m of 60/80lb Jinkai leader attached to 30/50lb braid. NEVER had a bust off that I didn't cause (by locking up the drag).
I can't understand why it is still highly recommended.
