Hi guys and gals
Has anyone bought a Penn Applause 7000, and hows it going?
I`ve had mine for 3 trips out in my boat now and use it for tossing metals at macks, tuna etc. Best I`ve done is a 15kg longtail so far and the reel is a delight to use with 50lb Tuff Line. Pretty good value so far.

Hi Tony
Yes mate , the only thing I`m not too sure about is the handle
(a bit small) Everything else is spot on, and the whole reel is as well made as any Daiwa or Shimano I own. Made in China and designed in Japan, manufactured goods just seem to be getting cheaper as time goes on.
Cheers,
Reggy

Reggy I bought a 6000 the other week and picked up a 10-15kg sicstik for half price $70:00 to go with it yes I love the reel and the rod I'm running 30lb braid over it for popper tossing chucking metal and bottom bashing. Yes I'm a bit concerned about the handle as the metal knob siezed a bit after I loned it to a mate ::) but overall it feels like a solid quality reel i did manage to pull heaps of these red things up with it the other week.

Yeah mate tend to agree on the handle, feels a bit weird.
Would be better with a nice rubber power handle on it, more comfy!!
Looks like they work well on the reds Andrew!! :D

Hi Andrew,
Nice red! Yes,my 7000 is becoming one of those all round tools that you throw in on every trip.
I thought the extra shaft that the ocillator bracket runs on is an interesting idea. Must be to help keep the bracket in line.
Who makes sicsticks?

the handle is designed for high speed spinning and lure fishing and it doesn't chew the skin off your hands if you are winding in a lot of lures and fish for a few days straight. We are looking at having an optional huge jigging style (based on Japanese reel customisers) handle for people that have a need for a larger handle. (I have had my hands bleeding all over the place because of rubber handles, and I'm not the only one. That is why every manufacturer is trying all kinds of materials and design's in there spin reel handles

The floating shaft that keeps the oscillating block in alignment which means the reel can handle 12kg of drag all day long and not have the osc block become jamed and break like I have done with the old spinfishers and everyother brand of eggbeater and yes we have broken saltigas etc on fish.

good to hear you guy's are giving them a flogging and catching some very nice fish.

Hi Nick
Can you tell me if the spool shaft is made of stainless or is it something else, like chrome plated steel?
I`m still trying to work out how they made this reel for the price.

Nick 12kg of drag that's impressive any idea why the handle would sieze prematurely as mine did. I'm with reggy still trying to work out how they build it for the price. That jigging style handle sounds like a great idea.
Cheers Andrew.

sorry for the late reply I have been out testing gear ;D

yes the main shaft is stainless. The handle shouldn't be seized like that seems as though it has gotten some salt spray in the handle bearing but if you can't loosen it send it in to me for a warranty.

We aren't making the reel any cheaper than our counter parts it just the competitors are selling there reels for a lot more. you can look at fishing tackle stores in Japan and they sell daiwa's and shimano's for substantaly less money. The stores in Japan also don't have to pay Import duties shipping etc which Aussie distributors have to cover the cost of so don't go to hard on other brands (you can if you want it will make Penn Look good ;D )
