I got a nice Daiwa surf rod and a couple of reels recently.
Reels are not good and will make good gifts/goodwill tokens but the rod is very nice.

Be like my ex-brother -in-law and buy some fishing gear when you see it on special and give it to the better half as a surprise. (works well when they don't like fishing)
His theory is they can't complain about not buying them anything and still benifit from the purchase.
Mind you though, he's not married anymore. Wonder why?? :-/

Well i guess i'm lucky too,while at Big W 2 weeks ago my misus spotted a knife set that has 2 or 3 knives(can't remember exactly) sharpening steel ,heavy duty scissors,gloves(which i'll never use),cutting board,and scales in it's own carry case for $20.00,put 2 on layby for presents as well.
Top missus i have.

your not wrong about hanging onto the good ones, mine suprised me last week by telling me that when the 4x4 is paid off next year, I can buy a new boat ( she allowed 30k plus what I get for the one I have now, 4.8 plate, 75hp 2 banger 2003 model, bow mount ect), as she never asks for much, whenever she says she wants something I bend over backwards to make sure she gets it. Took me 3 gos to get her tho ;D ;D
