I fish now with main line of berkley vanish, with a lot of success(no need for leader line) but in some conditions it is very hard to see when using soft plastics. I have tried braid but not a huge fan of tieing leader nots all of the time and having to change the line when it starts to weaken. I know a lot of people in the states use a fluro carbon main line and no leader required, I was wondering what peoples opinions are of Berkely's transition. Invisable under water (like vanish) but reflects sunlight very well above water(supposed almost glow bright yellow), so it is much more visable.

I spoke to a american bass fisherman from michgan at the santuary cove boat show.He uses flurocarbon for most of his fishing. His main comment was that it didn't cast very well.I'm not the youngest fisherman in the world but I can tie leader knots quickly. Its only a littlr practice.I dont nderstand your comment re braid weaking. The colour wears off but it retains its strenth ok.DB

I have found after it loses it's colour it also starts to lose its strength, snaps very easily. I think from being wet all the time it might even start to rot. Have lost alot of fish once the braid gets to this stage and not all big ones.

May i suggest trying a braid called FINS........I have been using this braid for some weeks and find it retains the colour and is ultra fine and very smooth.
150 yard spool will cost around $34
Cheers Brent

I am still using Fireline that is 5 years old. Apart from changing color it still seems strong. I recently bought some new 10lb that seems to break at about that 10lb where my old stuff breaks way above stated BS

I've been using Fireline and PowerPro since 1997, excellent stuff.

Like everything it needs maintenance, particularly fireline.

This means cutting the terminal end where it gets "furry" from use, and periodically (for me about once a year), spooling it from one reel to another, adding enough extra mono backing to ensure that the line level on the spool is at optimum.

This ensures you get the best out of your investment in a superior line, and always have "fresher" line at the terminal end.
