Just got my Matrix 17 delivered today from
http://www.cascademarinenavigation.com/
many thanks to whichever member mentioned them here last week.
It took 7 days to get here, and I got a tracking number for USPS. No import duty or GST.
The same model sells for $459 here locally, and I got it for AU$260 including postage.
The only downside is they read imperial (no metric), and U have to mail back to USA for service.
Best of all, when I opened it up, I had a matrix 27. Wow, free upgrade.

Yes Id recommend it. There are lots of aussies buying their gear out of the USA. The savings get even bigger on the top end stuff.
Just do a google search on fishfinders. There are a few price search engines that are helpful too. I found 10 dealers that were pretty close on price.

I use a company overseas for most of my stuff as well. Get great service jst have to work out the time differnce when emaillling them is all. Getting a Lowrance 107cdf and new VHF very soon. Savings can be quite considerable. If you want the web address Pm me. Not to sure on the rules for this.

I just ordered a Garmin 172C with Australian East coast chart and a USB reader with 16Meg blank card and Garmin Trip Waypoint manager from gpsdiscounts.com. My guess is about $350-400 saving and I'll have it in about 9 days.
My mate is a guide and has been buying his stuff from overseas for a while now. I think the latest is an 80lb Riptide Minnkota bow mount or about $1500 delivered.
I used to buy stuff from Mo's tackle but it takes longer than the overseas stuff.

Have had no probs with any the gear I have got from the States- considerable savings- Matrix 37/ Navman plotter/vhf radio- however have heard with some items as mention early -international units may not be serviced here in Aus- while other brands are fine.

I bought my Lowrance Sounder from the US. No problems and good delivery. You do need to be aware that all Humminbird gear in the US is imperial measurements only. Lowrance has both.

Same with my Eagle Fishmark 480, half the price and has both metric and imperial (one of my prequisites)

Davo,
Where did your mate get his 80lb Minnkota from, I'm in the market for one now as well?
Have bought a Lowrance X102C sounder from ebay in the US, saved around $300 Aussie $$$. If possible get them to mark the customs paperwork as 'Fishfinder' not just 'Electronics Equipment'. This happened to a friend & it attracts all kinds of attention when it arrives in the country.

Can anyone recommend what site to go to? I am looking for a small sounder to use in the estuary.
