G'day...new to the forum. Chasing some advice pls

Sorry but i dont really know the specific reel names to do a search.

A creature has knocked my house over & my rod/reel etc are gone. Insurance said to get some prices.

It was a graphite baitcaster with a small calcutta reel on it. Now i only fish enough to know how to cast without making a birds nest 9 out of 10 times & im happy with that. I am considering not replacing it with another calcutter but with the other type of overhead reel like a Daiwa Procaster (i mention that model so you know the type/shape of reel)

So fella's the question is...do either of these reels have an advantage over the other ? Is one more prone to 'birdsnests' than the other ?

I suppose im asking what is the difference in these 2 styles as to me they do the same job.

welcome to the site mate!!
The Procasters are what we term "low profile baitcasters"
Both are just as easy to bird nest, the main difference is in the size, weight and shape which make them a lot lighter and easier to toss lures all day.
They also generally have a smaller line capacity, but plenty for the styles of fishing they are designed for.

Let me know if you need a price on your stolen gear, may need the best description you can give to work that out for you.

Thanks tony...and for the welcome. Hows Agnes ? Growing huge development wise i bet. I have a big lump of land up there.... somewhere.

I do like the low weight (i am very light fisherman) of the Calcutta CT50 (210gr) but pondered the thought of a change to a lower profile. Most of the 'low profile baitcasters' in that same price range appear to be a bit heavier.

I did ask the difference in a shop & 2 different people just said its personal preference. I dont really use a lot of line so maybe either will do the job fine.

Thanks for the offer to help replace it all but everything thats missing is a diff model now (other reels etc) & for the 1st time in my life im not hunting the best price just stuff that will do a nice job as my old gear did.

..they left 1000's of dollars worth of trade tools behind so i can only assume they were disturbed. I would rather i caught up with them then karma...i tend to block a fair amount of sunlight if you know what i mean.

Hi Gus, I'm also new to this site. If you are concerned with "bird's nests", get a reel with a magnetic cast control instead of the centrifigual system. I've use both. Had a lot better luck with the magnets. The Daiwa Procaster has magnets ( i know, i have two of them ), don't know about the Shimano.
Hope you find the bonehead who swiped your gear.

Thanks ghoti. I am closing in on the daiwa advantage HST which has that system. Im not to keen on the shimano where i have to open the side to set it...the daiwa is done on the outside from best i can see.
