Hi folks,
Just got back for Ray's Outdoor, pick up a Ugly Stil PowerPlus rod PWR-B561SWM, Length 5'6 ", Action Medium, and Line Rating 6-10 KG.
I am looking for a medium range reel to match it, would the PENN 6500SS be a good match, was considering 8500SS BUT found out it's too heavy, so guys let me know ASAP, i will get it very soon.
Thanks :)

Just because somebody else said its too heavy, dont wipe it off your list!
Best thing you can do is get a good idea about what reels you should be looking at, then take the rod down to the store and put the reels on it to see how it feels TO YOU. YOU have to fish with it, not everyone else on this board. If the 8500SS is good for you, then buy it.
If it is for bottom bashing (which I suspect it is) then weight will count for bugger all. Most of the time the rod and reel are sitting in the holder. The fights are usually over in 10 minutes max, so the weight would be a negligible issue I would have thought. I would get the 8500SS over the 6500SS purely for line capacity in that instance. Its horses for courses.......
I guess what I am trying to say is get something that you are happy with, not what 85% of ausfish are happy with, cos at the end of the day, you have to fish with it, not them.

Yes thanks for the wonderful advise...i be heading down to my local tackle tomorrow and have it match ;)
BTW i know this might sound stupid...i got 2 Ugly Stik, 7 ft and 5'6" ft, just wondering should i take the 2 to my local tackle shop and compare it.
Cheers :)

If you are going to use the reel on both, then take both rods! No good having one being magic, and the other feeling like s**t. Might be a bit of a comprimise, but Im sure you can get a suitable reel to match both to your satisfaction...
