i just got the Abu Garcia 6600C4 Baitcast Combo from BCF and i was wondering what is the best line to use. i will be fishing mainly rivers and creeks. i don't want braid because i don't really like it. my dad says the Platypus Platinum line is good, but i think it stretches alot. what do you guys think.

Platinum is nice line.. but yes, it's stretchy. I use Platil Strong ST (brown) in the creeks and rivers, not too bulky. Plenty tough enough and isn't like a big 'lacca band.

Platinum or Super 100 mate. 2 great mono's.
Could i also suggest Maxima. Its up there with Platypus when it comes to mono's. As Maxima says, nothing knots better - and i tend to agree.

how thick is the super 100 20lb line compared to other 20lb monos. it says it is pretty thin so would it be good for my combo.

I dont have 20lb mate, but the heaviest Super i got is 12lb ;D . I got 10lb aswell, and i will guess that the 20lb will be.... .40/.45mm? Its very thin stuff, perfect for any fisho.

how does the 12lb hold up. i was thinking of getting 15lb for my fishing, just in case i get a big one.

I usually go 15 lb. It's not too thick and not too flimsy. 12 lb should be quite ok too....just depends on our style of fishing etc.

The 12lb is quite good. No real different to 10lb.
Cheers.

I think m100 is great, the shimano technium I think is better low strech quality about 12% strech, platinium is not good

Just watch your brands V where it comes from.
Bought a little eggbeater for my son a month or so back, nothing fancy just a $25 shimano. The tackle shop recommended Surecatch, which turned out to be a nice fine line.
Second son put on a turn about not getting a reel, so I picked him up one, told the missus to get some more of this "Surecatch" as it seemed to do the job ok.
She came home with a 1200m spool of it! Reckons it cost her $5 from Kmart.
well I was dirty at the original tackle shop thought they had sold me elcheapo line at an inflated price ($15 for 300m spool).
Then I had a closer look, the tackle shop spool was made in Japan and 0.24 line, the Kmart stuff was made in Malaysia and 0.34. Both 9lb lines.
So you got to be careful!
Upshot I found my eyes are getting to old to see the 0.24 stuff at night under poor light, so kids have the good stuff, and I put the thick stuff on my eggbeater so I can see it! Get more feel on the kids finer line, but no good to me after the first bust up!

For light lines that are very inexpensive, better use a knot like a well-tightened trilene knot (some call it two-turn clinch knot), especially if the light line is stretchy and limp. That would hold up much better than a whole bunch of knots. I guess it depends on how your thicker surecatch line busted up.....whether it was at the knot, or the line snapped in between connections.

Berkley Trilene - I have spooled up one with sensation and it is fantastic stuff IMO.

I use Maxima on my eggbeaters, but braid on my Abu's. The Maxima is thin and ties well, and it's a lot cheaper than braid.
try Platypus Pink. low stretch, thin diameter

Give the Surecatch High Tensile Sport line a go. It's green, it comes in a 600metre spool, it's quite fairly priced, it's got good abrasion resistance and it doesn't seem to have a great deal of stretch in it. I've found the Platypus Platinum line is like fishing with jelly. I've been using the Surecatch line offshore and in the Bay for some time now and I quite like it.
Cheers,
NICK.

I use Kokoda Applaud GT-R Ultra, it is very strong with little memory, very reasonable price, nice comfy diameter for getting a decent amount on a spool and 30 X abrasion resistance.
Ive been very successful with it, I cant go past it for lighter line classes.
Heavier line classes and Platypus Platinum is the go.
Cheers
