CANVAS TLD DRAGS

WOW, just learned that the main drag washer on TLD 15, 20 & 25
are made of canvas. Always thought they were dartainium.
Still wonder why these reels were so expensive when they first came out.

Its all tied into the demand curve. We were prepared to spend that amount until a few viable and cheaper options came out then Shimano changed their strategic direction and decided to increase the units sold dramatically by dropping the price. All of the R & D costs etc were written off in the preceeding 15 years. Both ways Shimano made a lot of $ out of that model.

Yeah, the friction washer is some sort of woven fabric material. The steel washer is actually 440 stainless steel (not titanium as the brochure would suggest).

Still, it's one of the smoothest drags out of the box for the price. They seem to last good too.

As long as the reel works, then they can make the drag out of second hand t-shirts for all I care....
